When training for any sport it is important to make sure that it is always done safely. Athletes are more often injured during the training or practice times for their sport, rather than during competition. This is due to a lack of concern through improper equipment, and a relaxed approach to the actual training time.

Training should be considered just as dangerous as the actual game or match. This is because the training time allows young athletes to pretend that they are in real scenarios in order to improve. The irony is that many of these practice positions are usually much worse than what could be experienced, thus leading to injury. There are some basic guidelines that should be followed while preparing for a sport:
1. All protective gear should be worn at all times. Regardless of the sport, all the gear provided for safety should be worn when engaging in any type of activity surrounding that sport. This will help to ensure that needless injuries do not occur.
2. Follow all rules and instructions by coaches. This is another important step as most athletes are being directly instructed during a practice time. Listening carefully can be a good way to avoid injury.
3. Be attentive of other teammates. By paying attention to the actions that are taking place by other teammates, athletes can make sure that they are not only protecting themselves, but others as well.
